We call it "waiting on God" but sometimes it's stalling.
Two years of praying about the same decision can look exactly like patience from the outside.
God put something on your heart, and you still haven't taken one real step toward it.
You haven't brought it to your pastor or held it up against the Word to see if it lines up with what God already said. You keep praying about it instead.
Deep down you already know the difference between waiting on God and hiding behind Him.
Sometimes slow really is wisdom, and Scripture never tells you to rush a decision God hasn't settled in you yet.
But Isaiah wasn't writing to people picking between two decent options. He was writing to a nation staring down enemies bigger than they were, real armies, real threats, nothing small about it.
God still opens with the same line either way. Fear thou not.
Read what God promises here, not that the fear will disappear.
I am with thee, and I will strengthen thee.
I will help thee, and I will uphold thee.
Every one of those is something God does, not something you have to feel first.
Then look at how He says He'll hold you up: with the right hand of His righteousness.
That's His righteousness doing the holding, and you were never asked to bring your own to the decision you're scared of.
We treat "feeling ready" like it's on the requirements list somewhere, and it was never there.
Caution sounds responsible. Sometimes it's just fear wearing a nicer name.
He's already standing in the exact spot you're scared to walk into, and that's what this verse promises you.
Faith is taking the step while the fear is still sitting right there next to you.
What He put on your heart isn't going to start itself while you wait to feel ready.
1. Be direct with the actual decision instead of the vague fear around it.
"I'm scared" isn't specific enough to act on. "I'm scared I'll start it and fail in front of everybody" is.
2. Get honest about whether you're waiting for peace or waiting for zero risk.
Peace is what He gives you. The risk isn't going anywhere.
3. Put it in front of your pastor this week and hold it up against the Word.
Two years of asking yourself hasn't settled it. That's exactly what the Word and your pastor are there for.
Father, I've called this patience when really I've been afraid.
I don't want to keep waiting for a feeling that may never come before I obey You.
Give me the courage to move now, trusting You're already standing right here with me.
Thank You that Your strength doesn't wait for my confidence to catch up first.
In Jesus' precious name we pray. Amen.
