What If You Never Missed the Will of God?
"And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day."
John 6:40 (KJV)
Yesterday we talked about how to tell conviction from condemnation.
Today we're talking about the will of God.
Most people think they have to find the will of God. Like it's some magnificent calling we have to chase down.
When we get asked, "What is the will of God?" most of us answer, "I'm still trying to figure it out."
And that, therein, lies the problem.
We think the will of God is something we have to figure out.
We pray and wait for an answer. When nothing comes, we assume we missed it or we're not praying hard enough.
I did the same thing.
I was looking for my own will. But instead of seeking God through my Bible, I was looking for signs.
The whole time, the answer was in my Bible. In John 6:40.
The will of God is that you see Jesus and believe on Him.
That's it.
I recognized that God's will wasn't my career path. It was a Person.
And that Person is Jesus Christ.
I thought it was some five-year plan. A hidden blueprint I'd unlock if I worked hard enough and proved myself worthy.
But it was sitting in front of me the whole time.
When I look at Hebrews 10:9-10, it shows me what the true will of God is.
"Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all."
Hebrews 10:9-10 (KJV)
By God's will, I have been sanctified through Jesus Christ once for all.
That will of God for my life was already accomplished at the cross.
And this Jesus isn't just my Lord and Savior. He's also yours.
When Jesus said, "It is finished," what He finished was the will of God for you.
I was searching for something that had already been finished. I just didn't know it.
You've been searching for something that's been finished since the cross.
Some of you are thinking, "Okay, but what about my purpose? What about my calling?"
Here's the thing.
Jesus is my Savior. He's also your Savior.
We all have the same calling. Preach the gospel and share what Jesus did for you on the cross.
You don't need a pulpit. You just need to preach the gospel.
Even if you're a cashier, there are lost souls coming through your line. You can preach the gospel right there.
You don't need a title to share your testimony.
You just need to know God's will for you and share it.
So it's not about finding your calling. It's about believing that you are called, righteous, perfected, and holy forever.
And that's what you preach.
Think about a fruit tree.
A fruit tree doesn't stay up at night stressing about whether it's making enough oranges.
It stays planted. It gets watered. And the fruit shows up.
That's you.
Stay rooted in what Jesus already finished, and the fruit grows on its own.
You don't have to manufacture it.
Here's how to apply the will of God to your life today.
PRAYER:
Father God, I was searching for Your will like it was lost. The whole time it was sitting right in front of me. Your Son. You didn't ask me to decode a mystery. You asked me to believe on Jesus. Through His offering I have been sanctified and set apart, not because of what I did but because of what He did. Once for all. Today I receive Your will instead of trying to discover it. Use me wherever You have me, in my workplace and in my everyday life. Give me the boldness to share what You did for me with everyone You put in my path. In Jesus' precious name we pray.
